WTTW celebrates 50th Anniversary of Kartemquin Films with monthly broadcasts through 2016

WTTW, Chicago's premier public television station, will broadcast a year-long series of Kartemquin's award-winning films in honor of our 50th anniversary. The monthly series will feature films from each decade of Kartemquin’s history, including the classic Hoop Dreams (1994), which will air in June 2016, to coincide with a Kartemquin “Milestones” gala celebration at the Chicago Cultural Center and Harris Theater on June 24, and an art exhibition running May-August at Expo 72. Almost There ends year on top

For Almost There, 2015 comes to an end with the film hailed by critics as one of the year's best documentaries, after an award-winning worldwide festival run and US theatrical and VOD release. The story of Aaron Wickenden and Dan Rybicky's ethically complex seven-year relationship with reclusive elderly "outsider" artist Peter Anton is now available to watch on Fandor and Vimeo, and will soon be available on more VOD platforms thanks to distributor Factory 25. Best of the Midwest Awards Recognize Kartemquin Projects

The Midwest brings good news to Kartemquin this week. The Midwest Independent Film Festival announced the Best of the Midwest Awards (BMAs) nominees from around the region that have screened at the festival's monthly first Tuesday events. Almost There leads the BMAs in overall nominations, being represented in 4 categories: Best Editing for Aaron Wickenden; Best Artistic Specialization for Ross Thomas, Jenna Caravello and Peter Anton's work on the film's Visual Effects; Best Director for Aaron Wickenden and Dan Rybicky, and the main prize of Best Feature. Director Joanna Rudnick's On Beauty will compete in 2 categories: Best Editing for Liz Kaar and Best Short Film. Congratulations to both Kartemquin teams! Continued

Factory 25 to release Almost There in theaters and on VOD this December

We are delighted to announce that Factory 25 has acquired the rights to Kartemquin's Almost There. The multiple festival award-winning film is the directorial debut by Dan Rybicky and Aaron Wickenden (editor of Finding Vivian Maier, Best of Enemies, The Interrupters and The Trials of Muhammad Ali). Factory 25 and Kartemquin are premiering the film theatrically on December 4th in New York City at Cinema Village and on December 11th in Los Angeles at Arena Cinema and in Chicago at The Gene Siskel Film Center followed by screenings across the country through winter. Almost There nominated for Cinema Eye Honors Spotlight Award

Congratulations are due to Almost There, which has been nominated for the 2016 Cinema Eye Honors Spotlight Award. The Cinema Eye Honors awards for Nonfiction Filmmaking winners will be announced at the 9th Annual Honors Ceremony on January 13, 2016 at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. The Spotlight Award aims to "shine a great big light on films that need to have big audiences and filmmakers from whom we can’t wait to see more." Continued

Houston Cinema Arts Festival to Host Tribute to Kartemquin Films

This year’s Houston Cinema Arts Festival, which takes place from November 12-19, will be hosting a tribute to Kartemquin Films. As part of this incredible honor, three of our documentaries - Golub, On Beauty, and Almost There - will screen at the festival, and there will also be two free panel discussions. Gordon Quinn will be in attendance for the screenings as well as participating as a panelist. Continued
