Raising Bertie and On Beauty to screen at Sarasota

Last week, we announced Raising Bertie's world premiere at Full Frame Documentary Festival in Durham, North Carolina. The festival today confirmed the screening will take place at 4:30PM on Saturday, April 9th at the Carolina Theater's Fletcher Hall. Tickets go on sale April 1, 2016. Ashland Independent Film Festival to honor Kartemquin

The Ashland Independent Film Festival will honor Kartemquin Films’ 50 years of creating high-quality, social-issue documentaries during the 15th annual AIFF on April 7-11, 2016. The festival, which features more than 90 films and dozens of special events across the town of Ashland, Oregon, will welcome special guests Kartemquin Artistic Director and co-founder Gordon Quinn, Emmy-nominated director Joanna Rudnick and Peabody Award-winning director Maria Finitzo. Grasshopper Film Acquires Kartemquin’s In the Game

In the Game set to screen at SXSWedu in March, Chicago Latino Film Festival in April Grasshopper Film has acquired the VOD and non-theatrical rights to In the Game, a documentary following four years in the life of a girls’ soccer team at a Chicago inner city high school, from producers Kartemquin Films and Peabody-award-winning director Maria Finitzo (Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita). The deal comes ahead of In the Game screening at SXSWedu 2016 on March 7, and in a special presentation at the 2016 Chicago Latino Film Festival on April 19. Continued

Let's Get Back in the Game

In the Game has hit the ground running since its Chicago premiere, screening at festivals and events around the country. The film, directed by Maria Finitzo, follows the ups and downs of a girls’ soccer team to reveal the very real obstacles that low-income students confront in their quest for higher education. The girls face an uneven playing field - or in the case of the girls at Kelly High School, no soccer field at all - little or no support, problems at home, uncertain futures, discrimination, and poverty, but remain undaunted thanks to their teammates and the dedicated mentoring of their coach. International Documentary Association to honor Gordon Quinn with Career Achievement Award

The International Documentary Association (IDA) will present its prestigious 2015 Career Achievement Award to Gordon Quinn, Founder and Artistic Director of Kartemquin Films. Gordon will receive the honor at the 31st Annual IDA Documentary Awards at Paramount Pictures' Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 5, 2015. In the Game Screens at Thomas Kelly High School and Harold Washington Library

Kartemquin Films has been making waves in the community with Peabody Award-winning director Maria Finitzo’s latest film In the Game. Last week, the filmmakers hosted two screenings at the very place the documentary’s story centers--Thomas Kelly High School in Brighton Park, Chicago. In the Game stars get amazing surprise on WGN

A wonderful surprise happened to the stars of In the Game today, as they appeared alongside their Kelly High School soccer coach Stan Mietus and the film's director Maria Finitzo on WGN Morning News to be interviewed by Dean Richards. Unbeknownst to any of them in advance, Joe Trost, organizer of the PepsiCo Showdown, interrupted the segment to present Alicia, Maria, and Elizabeth with a check for $3,000 that had been raised to help them with their goal of going back to college.
