DePaul University hosts two days of "Verité" events: Unbroken Glass panels; Master Classes with Leslie Simmer and Gordon Quinn

Documentary filmmakers will gather at the School of Cinematic Arts at DePaul University for “Verité,” two days of events that offer an in-depth look at the filmmaking process. The events will feature three filmmakers from Kartemquin: Dinesh Sabu, director of Unbroken Glass; Gordon Quinn, co-founder and Artistic Director of Kartemquin and Emmy Award-winning editor Leslie Simmer. Events will be held Oct. 28-29 in DePaul’s Daley Building, 247 S. State St. Admission is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. SLIFF honors Gordon Quinn with Maysles Brothers Lifetime Achievement Award; celebrates #KTQ50

The St. Louis International Film Festival will be honoring Kartemquin co-founder and Artistic Director Gordon Quinn with the Maysles Brothers Lifetime Achievement Award in Documentary on Sunday, November 6th. In celebration of Quinn, SLIFF will be screening a preview of the work-in-progress '63 Boycott, as well as Kartemquin classics Trick Bag and Winnie Wright, Age 11. Continued

Hot Docs to honor Steve James with 2016 Outstanding Achievement Award

Toronto's Hot Docs has chosen Steve James as the recipient of its 2016 Outstanding Achievement Award. As part of the honour, Hot Docs will screen a retrospective during the 23rd annual Festival, April 28 to May 8, celebrating James’s distinguished career as a director and producer. “It's an honour to celebrate a filmmaker of such depth, humanity and integrity as Steve James with the Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award,” says Hot Docs director of programming Shane Smith. “Over a career spanning three decades his body of exceptional work has demonstrated his commitment to illuminating stories of grit, honour and personal sacrifice; and solidified his status as a master of the documentary form.” Continued

Applications now open for 2016 Diverse Voices in Docs

On Sunday, October 11th, the 2015 fellows of the Diverse Voices in Docs (DVID) program celebrated their graduation from the esteemed program at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts on the University of Chicago campus. Now in its third year, DVID aims to help filmmakers of color increase their skillset and network as well as provides them with a venue to screen their works in progress and aid in completing their own documentary projects.
