On Beauty wins Audience Award for Best Short Film at Chicago International Film Festival

We are delighted to announce that On Beauty won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film at the 50th Chicago International Film Festival! The victory is sweet for many reasons: the film's sold-out home town screening was the world premiere, and marked the end of a five-year journey making the film for director Joanna Rudnick, during which she also got married, had two children and a bilateral mastectomy, all while distributing her first film, the Emmy-nominated In the Family. On Beauty's World Premiere is Sold Out! More festivals announced

On Beauty will play for a sold-out crowd on Saturday October 18th as part of the Chicago International Film Festival, which caps off a week of screenings that marked the film’s world premiere. The event starts at 1:15 p.m. at the AMC River East theater in Chicago. Audience members will not only get to see the film, but they will also be able to share their stories with director Joanna Rudnick, and stars Rick Guidotti and Jayne Waithera and other special guests who have helped make this film possible. There will be a post-screening panel that will address the challenges and importance of changing public perceptions, Rick’s work, the film and the filmmaking process. The panel includes Joanna, Rick, Jayne, the film's editor Liz Kaar, and Mike McGowan, the president of the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation. Continued

Kartemquin at the Chicago International Film Festival

There are many opportunities to see Kartemquin films here in our beloved Chicago this October. These include the world premieres of On Beauty and The School Project, and a special Chicago International Film Festival screening of Life Itself. The late addition of Life Itself to the 50th Chicago Film Festival, which begins today, was just announced this week along with a new award that will be named after Roger Ebert.
