The Homestretch screens for 1200 CPS staff

This August 1200 staff from Chicago Public Schools viewed a special fifteen minute selection from The Homestretch ahead of the start of the new school year - and the first Chicago run of the film. The staff were present for Homeless Liaison Training, receiving information and resources designed to help them in their work assisting the estimate 19,000+ homeless youth registered in CPS schools. Tickets now on sale for The Homestretch Chicago premiere

On September 12th, the Gene Siskel Film Center will present the Chicago premiere of The Homestretch, our new documentary about homeless youth in Chicago. The film, produced and directed by Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly, will then have its theatrical premiere run for a week at the venue. Get tickets here - multiple screenings have already sold out! Shot over the course of five years with unprecedented access into the Chicago Public Schools, The Night Ministry’s The Crib emergency youth shelter, and Teen Living Programs’ Belfort House, The Homestretch follows three teens—Roque, Kasey and Anthony-- through a complex and haunting Chicago landscape of couch-hopping, emergency shelters, makeshift homes, and a school system that is struggling to cope with this crisis. Submit to Good Pitch Chicago 2015

Submissions are now open for Good Pitch Chicago 2015! Documentary filmmakers should apply by September 5, 2014 to be eligible for selection for the event, which will take place in Chicago in April 2015. Apply and get more information here! Good Pitch brings in-progress documentary projects in front of potential funders and outreach partners "to forge coalitions and campaigns that are good for all these partners, good for the films and good for society." Since 2008 the events have raised over $8,000,000 for almost 200 different documentaries. The Homestretch celebrates successful US premieres

Last week saw the back-to-back US premiere weekend of The Homestretch, with 4 different screenings in 48 hours, in 3 different states, in 4 different theaters, with AFI Docs 2014 hosting the film in Washington, D.C., and Human Rights Watch Film Festival hosting the New York premiere. The Homestretch follows three homeless youth in Chicago over multiple years as they strive to graduate high school. These festivals allowed our team and our audience to look at the issue of youth homelessness first, as a policy issue, and second, as a human rights issue - while also getting stunning audience feedback that really brought home how ready people are to embrace this documentary. Buzz builds for The Homestretch US & NYC Premieres

We are very excited that AFI Docs 2014 will host the US Premiere of The Homestretch tomorrow, June 19th. The film's New York City premiere will then be the next day, June 20th, at the 2014 Human Rights Watch Film Festival. Ahead of these screenings, more early reviews of the film have emerged - and they are superb! In the Village Voice, the film was called "a humane accomplishment," and The Washington Post called it "heart-wrenching," and picked it out as one of 'six to see' at AFI Docs. Continued

US and New York Premieres set for The Homestretch

AFI Docs 2014 will host the US Premiere of The Homestretch on June 19th. The film's New York City premiere will be the next day, June 20th, at the 2014 Human Rights Watch Film Festival. The Homestretch, which follows three homeless youth in Chicago over multiple years as they strive to graduate high school, will screen at AFI Docs on 6:45PM on Thursday, June 19th at the AFI Silver Theatre.
