Kartemquin Chicago Extravaganza this weekend

Kartemquin staff and associates are scattering around Chicago this weekend in a flurry of exciting activity.  Tomorrow at 10am, Kartemquin's Gordon Quinn, Jerry Blumenthal and Leslie Simmer kick off the 2009 IFP Doc Summit with a panel on producing a series.  Then, featured in the next panel is Milking the Rhino Associate Producer Xan Aranda discussing the ways and means of collaborating with ITVS.  Simultaneously, a little further north, visit the Kartemquin booth at the Chicago Creative Expo at the Cultural Center from 10-4.   At 1pm, a little further north still, Facets hosts the Chicago premiere screening of Kartemquin's acclaimed series Continued

The New Americans broadcast dates announced

We excited to announce that Kartemquin's epic mini-series on immigration will be rebroadcast this summer on PBS's Global Voices. The series will air in hour-long segments over 7 consecutive Sundays, starting on June 14th. If you live in the Chicago area, don't forget to about a addition screening of The New Americans at Facets Cinematheque this upcoming weekend, April 4th and 5th, including a filmmaker panel discussion. Kartemquin participates in IFP Producer's Series

Kartemquin will have a heavy presence at this year's IFP Chicago Producer's Series coming up in April.  Leslie Simmer, Jerry Blumenthal and Gordon Quinn will participate in a panel about series producing, using The New Americans as a focal point.  Xan Aranda will speak with ITVS' Kathryn Washington about their collaboration on Milking the Rhino.  Lastly, Gordon Quinn will talk about his passion for fair use in a discussion about producer's rights.  Check it out. Kartemquin in the classroom

Kartemquin's Jim Morrissette and Julie Englander met with 7th and 8th grade video students at the Eli Whitney/LVCDC Community School in Little Village on Thursday, where they screened clips from Now We Live on Clifton, The New Americans, and a few of Jim's PSAs, and talked about working as documentary filmmakers. The Little Village community and LVCDC had been the subjects of some Kartemquin filming in the winter, and this class was a great opportunity to demonstrate a little bit more of what Kartemquin does, as well as introduce ourselves to a new generation of video fans! Kartemquin at Full Frame this weekend!

There's a flurry of Kartemquin activity at this year's Full Frame Film Festival in North Carolina starting tomorrow morning! Kartemquin's award-winning 2004 series The New Americans is screening in segments beginning tomorrow morning at 10:45. Then, fresh from SXSW and the Dallas Film Fest, At the Death House Door is screening at 7:15pm Friday night.
