This week The Interrupters adds to its passport, screening in national premieres in South Africa, Ireland, Mexico and again back home in Chicago. The trip to Mexico is in conjunction with the State Department sponsored American Film Showcase, an international cultural diplomacy initiative that brings people together worldwide through film. Director Steve James will take part in the showcase, as the festivities kick-off in Mexico on Sunday, August 19th 9PM at The Monterrey International Film Festival. The showcase continues through the end of the week as Steve James travels to Nuevo Laredo & Piedras Negras, holding workshops and screening the film for audiences as diverse as recovering ex-gang members, at-risk youth, deported immigrants as well as government officials. More details here.
Meanwhile, The Interrupters makes its Irish Premiere at Dublin’s Stranger Than Fiction - Sunday, August 19th at 2 PM. For our South African fans, screenings continue at Cape Town’s Labia Theatre through Thursday, August 23rd. Please visit the Labia Theatre’s website for details and showtimes, and check out this great review from South Africa's Tonight: "YOU MAY think you have seen some very good documentaries, and I’m going to let you finish, but this is one of the best of the year."
Finally back home in Chicago, you’ll have two chances to catch The Interrupters. Wednesday, August 22nd – 5 PM the film screens on the Southside at The Ray & Joan Kroc Corp Community Center. And on Friday, August 24th, The Interrupters screens in downtown Chicago at Catalyst Ranch – 6PM.
