Illinois Governor cuts funding to Ceasefire, featured in The Interrupters

CeaseFire Illinois, the Chicago-based violence prevention organization featured in our 2011 film The Interrupters, will immediately stop "all program activities" due to losing almost 60 percent of its funding from the state of Illinois in the proposed 2016 budget from Governor Bruce Rauner. The Interrupters focused on three CeaseFire Illinois "violence interrupters" named Ameena Matthews, Eddie Bocanegra, and Cobe Williams, as they worked to intercept the spread of conflicts in their communities as part of the CeaseFire program founded by Dr. Gary Slutkin. Documentary filmmakers in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia can glean some tips of the trade from Steve James, as he offers upcoming masterclass sessions. On March 14, DOC BC, in collaboration with Creative BC and DOXA Documentary Film Festival, offers "A Day with Steve James" in Vancouver. Steve will host one-on-one feedback sessions with filmmakers with works-in-progress, teach a Documentary Filmmaking Masterclass, and then present a special screening Life Itself. Almost There is a breakout hit at True/False 2015
