Amnesty International Human Rights Arts Festival to showcase Kartemquin films

Kartemquin Films will share a collection of activist documentaries, including Labor Stories, Taylor Chain I & II, Golub: Late Works are the Catastrophes, and new 2010 feature Prisoner of her Past, at the first ever Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival in Silver Spring, Maryland during April 23-25th 2010. Kartemquin's Jerry Blumenthal and Judy Hoffman will attend. Screening times are as follows:

Prisoner of Her Past (4/24, 12pm)

Taylor Chain I & II (4/24, 4:30pm)

Golub: Late Works Are the Catastrophes (4/24, 8:30pm)

Labor Stories (4/25, 4pm).

Kartemquin: A subject of Cinema and Media Studies

The Society of Cinema and Media Studies held its annual conference in Chicago over the weekend. Kartemquin was the topic of two scholarly presentations. Angela Aguayo, from Eastern Illinois University, presented a paper entitled, "Radical Labor Documentary and Social Change: A Case Study in the Films of the Kartemquin Film Collective" and Judy Hoffman, a Kartemquin alum, presented "Kartemquin Films and the Making of Political Documentaries." Jerry Blumenthal also participated in the weekend conference, hosting a screening of Taylor Chain I: A Story in a Local Union, The Last Pullman Car and [[What's Happening at Local 70?|film:whats-happening-at-local-70]].

Historic Kartemquin labor films now on DVD

Kartemquin Films and Facets are proud of the recent Labor Stories DVD release.
