There are many opportunities to see Kartemquin films here in our beloved Chicago this October. These include the world premieres of On Beauty and The School Project, and a special Chicago International Film Festival screening of Life Itself.
The late addition of Life Itself to the 50th Chicago Film Festival, which begins today, was just announced this week along with a new award that will be named after Roger Ebert. Life Itself director Steve James and star Chaz Ebert will both attending the screening on October 22nd. Read more about it here, and get tickets here.
But first, please join us in celebrating the world premiere of On Beauty on October 18th. Director Joanna Rudnick will attend, and we are delighted to announce that she will be joined by the film's stars Rick Guidotti and - flying in all the way from Kenya - Jayne Waithera! This will be a memorable event - not to be missed! Get tickets here.
The Chicago Film Festival will also host a special discussion of films about science called "Science + Cinema: New Screen Frontiers" which features Maria Finitzo discussing her Peabody Award-winning Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita, along with two KTQ Labs projects: Steve James' Head Games, and 137 Films' The Believers. Register here for this free event, held on Tuesday October 21st at Chicago Council on Science and Technology.
Kartemquin's Community Engagement Manager Beckie Stocchetti will be moderating a discussion following Darius Clark Monroe's documentary Evolution of a Criminal at CIFF on Monday October 20th.
Examining public education after the fallout from the city’s historic closing of 49 public schools, The School Project, a six-part series of 10-minute segments, will launch with a free public screening and discussion at the Chicago History Museum on Tuesday, October 28. The series’ interactive website will launch simultaneously at http://www.schoolprojectfilm.com, and air on Chicago's PBS station. Find out more here.
