Remembering Bill Nack

Kartemquin is deeply saddened by the passing of William "Bill" Nack, who was featured in our 2014 documentary Life Itself, about Roger Ebert. Nack and Ebert became lifelong friends after meeting at the University of Illinois, while both working on The Daily Illini newspaper. As Ebert went on to became perhaps the world's most famous and greatest film critic, Nack was equally successful in his field of sports writing, gaining great acclaim for his decades of journalism for Sports Illustrated, and in particular for his 1975 book "Secretariat: The Making of a Champion," the definitive work on the Triple Crown-winning horse. Minding the Gap wins Best Editing: Feature Length Documentary at Ashland

Minding the Gap continues to enjoy a stellar festival run, most recently earning the Best Editing: Feature Length Documentary Award at the Ashland Independent Film Festival this past weekend. Minding the Gap wins twice at Full Frame

Minding the Gap by Bing Liu, recipient of the 2018 Sundance Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking, earned two awards at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival this past weekend: the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature and an honorable mention for the Charles E. Minding the Gap wins One in a Million award at Sun Valley Film Festival

The Sun Valley Film Festival announced today that Minding the Gap, the debut feature from director Bing Liu, earned the fest's One in a Million Award! The One in a Million award "celebrates the heart of independent film, and films made with a budget of less than a million dollars." This is the second award thus far for Minding the Gap, which took home the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this past January, following its world premiere at the fest.
