Stuart Fagan

Stuart Fagan is currently the President Emeritus and a Professor of Public Administration at Governors State University, after serving as President of the University from 2000-2007. Governers State is Illinois' only upper division public university, serving 7700 largely working adult students from diverse backgrounds and locales. Mr. Fagan has also served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Roosevelt University, where he acted as the chief academic and operating officer. Prior to his position at Roosevelt, Mr. Fagan taught at Columbia University and Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, where he was Dean of International Programs and Campus Executive Officer.
 
Since 2004, he has been involved with several organizations that promote and serve the arts and education, including the Illinois Education Advocacy Organization which was instrumental in forming Advance Illinois, a Gates Foundation initiative. He chaired the Coordinating Council of the Illinois Public University Presidents/Chancellors and also the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium. He has served on the Board of Directors at the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and is a current Board member for Kartemquin Films.
 
Mr. Fagan received his Bachelor's degree at Boston University and received his PhD. from the University of California in Political Science, where he later researched and taught for several years. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was a Rockefeller Foundation Grant recipient, among other honors. He currently resides in Chicago, IL.
