Oscar Shortlist, CNN air date and National Board of Review Award for Life Itself

Life Itself has been named on the Academy Awards shortlist for Best Documentary Feature. Today CNN also announced that January 4th, 9pm ET will see the broadcast television premiere of the film, which depicts the life and last days of Pulitzer Prize winning film critic Roger Ebert. Life Itself was also honored today as Best Documentary of the year by the National Board of Review, and was yesterday nominated for Best Documentary of the year by the Producers Guild of America. Life Itself nominated for Gotham Award

The Gotham Independent Film Awards have nominated Life Itself for selection as the Best Documentary of 2014. We are very honored to have the film recognized for this award, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). The awards ceremony is December 1st at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, NY. The other Best Documentary nominees were Actress, Citizenfour, Manakamana, and Point and Shoot. Life Itself first premiered to wide acclaim at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and has played at Cannes, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Telluride, and a host of other festivals, including a special screening just yesterday at Roger Ebert's hometown Chicago International Film Festival, which was attended by Chaz Ebert and the film's director, Steve James. Kartemquin at the Chicago International Film Festival

There are many opportunities to see Kartemquin films here in our beloved Chicago this October. These include the world premieres of On Beauty and The School Project, and a special Chicago International Film Festival screening of Life Itself. The late addition of Life Itself to the 50th Chicago Film Festival, which begins today, was just announced this week along with a new award that will be named after Roger Ebert.
