Life Itself nominated for Gotham Award

The Gotham Independent Film Awards have nominated Life Itself for selection as the Best Documentary of 2014. We are very honored to have the film recognized for this award, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). The awards ceremony is December 1st at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, NY. The other Best Documentary nominees were Actress, Citizenfour, Manakamana, and Point and Shoot. Life Itself first premiered to wide acclaim at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and has played at Cannes, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Telluride, and a host of other festivals, including a special screening just yesterday at Roger Ebert's hometown Chicago International Film Festival, which was attended by Chaz Ebert and the film's director, Steve James. Kartemquin at the Chicago International Film Festival

There are many opportunities to see Kartemquin films here in our beloved Chicago this October. These include the world premieres of On Beauty and The School Project, and a special Chicago International Film Festival screening of Life Itself. The late addition of Life Itself to the 50th Chicago Film Festival, which begins today, was just announced this week along with a new award that will be named after Roger Ebert. KTQ producers star in 2014 New City Film 50

Chicago's New City magazine has published it's 2014 list of Chicago's "Screen Gems" - an annual list of the top 50 film artists in the city - and for the second year in a row, a Kartermquin producer is at #1. Steve James takes the top spot this year, receiving praise for his work on Life Itself and his long career of "explorations of the heart and humanity of Chicago." Out of the 50 names, the list contains a total of 11 Kartemquin producers and associates. These are: #1 - Steve James, director/producer of The Interrupters, and many more. Continued

The great critical and audience acclaim for Steve James' Life Itself has recently seen the film listed by IndieWIRE critics as #1 on their list of the best documentaries of 2014 so far, and by awards season prognosticators as a potential "frontrunner." Chicago and Kartemquin, Kartemquin and Chicago

We love our fair city by the lake, and this September are feeling the love back in return as we host a number of special events and screenings in our home town. Often doubling up on the same night! First up is the spectacular KTQ Gala tomorrow evening, when 300 of the windy city's smartest and most stylish documentary fans will gather to celebrate our record year of premiering 6 films, and having 15 currently in production,* all of which will be showing exclusive sneak preview clips at the event. We will see you there! The Gala coincides with the start of a second Chicago run for Life Itself, which will play from September 5th-11th at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Get tickets! Special Life Itself Screening to Preview Telluride Festival

A special screening of Life Itself will preview the 41st Telluride Film Festival. Director Steve James and Chaz Ebert will attend the free-to-the-public showing at the Abel Gance Open Air Theater, which begins at approximately 8:30pm tonight (Thursday August 28th). The prestigious festival officially runs from Friday August 29th - Monday September 1st. All festival passes are sold out. Contact the festival for more details.
