KTQ producers star in 2014 New City Film 50

Chicago's New City magazine has published it's 2014 list of Chicago's "Screen Gems" - an annual list of the top 50 film artists in the city - and for the second year in a row, a Kartermquin producer is at #1. Steve James takes the top spot this year, receiving praise for his work on Life Itself and his long career of "explorations of the heart and humanity of Chicago." The great critical and audience acclaim for Steve James' Life Itself has recently seen the film listed by IndieWIRE critics as #1 on their list of the best documentaries of 2014 so far, and by awards season prognosticators as a potential "frontrunner." First up is the spectacular KTQ Gala tomorrow evening, when 300 of the windy city's smartest and most stylish documentary fans will gather to celebrate our record year of premiering 6 films, and having 15 currently in production,* all of which will be showing exclusive sneak preview clips at the event. Special Life Itself Screening to Preview Telluride Festival

A special screening of Life Itself will preview the 41st Telluride Film Festival. Director Steve James and Chaz Ebert will attend the free-to-the-public showing at the Abel Gance Open Air Theater, which begins at approximately 8:30pm tonight (Thursday August 28th). The prestigious festival officially runs from Friday August 29th - Monday September 1st. All festival passes are sold out. Contact the festival for more details. Life Itself receives Special Award at Traverse City Film Festival

Michael Moore, founder of the Traverse City Film Festival, gave Life Itself a "Special Award" recognition at the festival this past weekend. See the full list of award winners. Roger Ebert's widow, Chaz, was attending the festival and accepted the prize on behalf of the filmmakers. Life Itself had previously played two sold-out screenings at the festival. First released in theaters on July 4th, the acclaimed documentary is currently still playing in over 50 cities in the US and Canada through Magnolia and Video Services Corp, with many more dates to come, and is available on demand and on iTunes.
